The Travelling Bark
Budded at my grandma's house.
Fed me with milk and idlis of the restaurant below were my favourite.
One day, they line us all and across was my favourite idli
Sprinted across to be picked up by my master as the fastest and most playful.
Next thing I know, I'm in a carton with a small peephole and a white thread on my neck;
travelling in a huge blue block they called train.
When I was taken out ,
Cold ice sprinkles felt good on my fur and I was on my masters lap again.
Soon I was the master of the whole unit with all armed
men taking utter good care of me
and would provide me with delicious supper.
There was only one rival in my area who all others would pamper, Sher Khan.
During mid day my master would return and i would pull his shoelaces to untie them.
He never would shun me.
I would often jump over the fence to look for new adventures from post to post.
But soon my master and the men would come chasing me after.
One day i saw three humans entering my masters cottage .
I felt envious of the little girl who went running to my master,
I quickly hid under my master's chair and started barking to claim him as mine.
She even tried to come near me when i was at my supper but this time I taught her a lesson
She would try to feed me ,play ball with me and have fun grooming me.
She would also accompany me to go around for adventures in my area.
I grew fond of her and gave her space to cuddle in my blanket.
Though i could see her mom looking at her in disgust.
End of summers and they had to leave
I followed their gypsy as fast and as long as i could and stopped dead to have come a long way and reverted back to my master .
I went to visit them at their place two hours away
while there I scared all the girl's pals away
They had a weird stink to them and i ran to bite them all
It gave the girl a good reason to trouble her bullies at school.
I was immensely proud of myself .
They would call me the most ferocious of them all.
I went for training with the armed men
they would make me exercise
and it was like a game, every sound had an action associated with it.
After three long years I was put in a truck with men and lots of wooden boxes to travel for another adventure,
It was hot and humid as I climbed down;
I would be sitting in a corner sticking my tongue out.
The resting place was as big as a mansion with big gardens to play.
I would love mango kernels and twist over them in the grass.
I would play ball with the girl and the men and run after catching it.
Occasionally bounce on frogs and jittering around the mice and mongoose.
My master would be chasing me because of my mischief.
Another posting and yet another to go
I grew fussy about my food
They couldn't fool me now with egg when there was meat around
I would keep all the cats and mice out ,
And stay happy with my family.
One day I did a full split with my legs and crashed on the floor,
Still full alert to have seen a cat passing by
I left them with a tear and a lump in their hearts
I would always protect my family as a true German Shepherd
Laika , yaa that's what I would respond to always.
